Dailuaine was founded in 1851 by William Mackenzie in Carron, Speyside, near the River Spey. Once the largest distillery in Speyside, it is known for producing a bold, meaty spirit primarily used in blends. Despite this, its whisky remains rich, robust, and well-suited for long-term aging. In 1889, Dailuaine became one of the first Scottish distilleries to adopt a pagoda-style roof, designed by renowned distillery architect Charles Doig. This ‘Doig Ventilator’ improved malt drying efficiency and was later widely adopted. Throughout the 20th century, Dailuaine remained a key supplier for premium blends, and while official single malt releases are rare, Signatory Vintage occasionally offers independent bottlings.
The name “Dailuaine” (pronounced ‘Dal-Yoo-An’) comes from Gaelic, meaning “green valley”, reflecting its picturesque setting.
