Craigellachie 17 Year

Craigellachie 17 Year

Craigellachie Distillery was built in 1890 by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie, two influential whisky entrepreneurs. The distillery was built in the village of Craigellachie, Speyside, near the confluence of the rivers Spey and Fiddich. An important hub in whisky’s history where railways lines from north, south, east and southwest met, allowing rail transport between Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth. Designed by Charles Doig, a renowned distillery architect, Craigellachie was one of the most modern distilleries of its time, built with the express intention of making a lighter fruiter character than the older distilleries. One of the earliest descriptors of Craigellachie mentions pineapple as a desirable aroma.
